Shoot For The Stars – Land On The Moon
Often the overall approach for successfully producing the result you want is not complex at all. I believe it was Les Brown who said “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” This quote has good infrastructure present within it but I reworked the systems to make it much more logical. One of the fundamental principles for success I go by is “Shoot for the stars. If you fail then you will land on the moon.” or the short version which is “Shoot for the stars. Land on the moon.”
So first let me break down this modified quote of mine. The base infrastructure here is the moon which represents the original goal you are going for and the stars which represents results several times that of your original goal. “Shoot for the stars.” This first part means create and execute a strategy that realistically has a chance of producing several times the results of your original goal even if the odds are not favorable. “If you fail then you will land on the moon.” This second part means that if you fail at producing several times the results of your original goal then the odds are still most likely in your favor that you will at least achieve your original goal if not more.
I believe that even if we understand the true nature of something, we can see it from a new alternative perspective and thus form a strategy that produces greater results than have been achieved in the past. Why is it that athletes consistently break records at every Olympics by only a small margin? If you add these advancements up over the years, it will equate to a large margin between the first and last record. I can extract multiple success distinctions out of this but if I analyze it through the perspective of “Shoot for the stars. Land on the moon.” then one obvious big distinction comes to mind. It was realistically possible for the first record setter to achieve the last record and it is possible for a person to go much further beyond the current record.
The principle of this distinction is not limited to Olympic events either. This is true for just about any result a person could want in the world that I can think of. Some of you may be asking “But if I can’t even come up with a strategy to realistically make my original goal a realistic possibility then how can I come up with one for several times the results of that?” It takes a big thinking mindset and if that doesn’t come naturally for you, like it does for me, then keep reading my content throughout the future to learn how.
This whole concept goes back to my Amplitude of Outlook post. I think that if most people just raised their chins up higher and started looking for ways to achieve bigger results then they actually would achieve a lot more in life. So simple. Just by changing their standards. It is easy to talk about numbers so let’s take the example of someone who is solely focused on becoming a millionaire. The world is full of these people but few actually achieve it. Now I bet that if all of these people stopped focusing on solely becoming a millionaire and instead really focused on becoming a billionaire then a whole lot more people would actually end up becoming millionaires and beyond. A huge part of this is the strategies that they will come up with. In both situations the person is starting off with the same amount of resources, especially including time. Because the person is truly attempting to build a strategy that can realistically make them a billionaire then they will automatically throw out several options that they would have considered if solely focused on becoming a millionaire, like being an employee, saving their way to the goal, putting earnings into a retirement fund, etc. So learn and apply the key distinction here! No matter what your goal is, create and execute the strategy that can produce several times the result you want. The odds are that you will get there faster and go way beyond.
Just take a second and feel the massive power that a strategy like this packs within it. Think of that big awesome result you want. Now what if you had a strategy that took the odds you have for achieving that and gave you those odds for achieving results fifty times greater? I’d be ecstatic! Most of the time this means that through this new strategy your odds for achieving your original goal will instantly increase by a large amount, many times almost guaranteeing you the definite achievement of the original goal. Through the implementation of this powerful success principle of “Shoot for the stars. Land on the moon.” I have gained ironclad levels of certainty in my ability to achieve most of my extreme goals in life. Can you legitimately say the same for what you are pursuing in life or are you just hoping? If you are hoping for success then change your approach.
