Self-Imposed False Limits
“The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow are the buts you use today.”
- Les Brown
I like quotes like this one. Obviously the truth is that there is more than the buts you use that limit your possibilities in your life tomorrow. BUT there is a lot less limiting people than most make themselves think and a lot of the buts they use are false limits. This quote is untrue but it is positioned closer to the truth than the beliefs most people have in their heads. It has impact and is motivational so I think it can be good to use things like these as tools to improve.
If you look for this one in the world you will see it on a regular basis where people will say “I want to do X but Y”. A lot of times X is something good for their life and Y is something they let stop them which they really shouldn’t. Most of the time it is a fear issue that stops people. Example: “I should invest my money but what if I lose some or all of it in a bad investment?” It is a real possibility that a person can lose money in investing. But a lot of times thoughts like this cause a person to do absolutely nothing. What would have been the correct thing for anyone to do after thinking or saying that statement is to at least go learn more about investing so then a conclusion on what action to take can be made out of an informed state rather than an uninformed one. This goes for anything else too.
